CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Kainé
Age: 25 (was petrified for 5 years)
Canon: Nier (Gestalt)
Canon Point: upon entering the Shadowlord's castle
Character Information: wiki
Personality:
The very first thing you hear when playing Nier is Kainé calling someone a dumbass and threatening to throw him in a furnace. Kainé is short-tempered and foul-mouthed and seems to be perpetually angry at the world. She has a gift for coming up with creative castration or death threats, and her resentful demeanor and eye-catching style of dressing will likely give people the impression that she doesn't really give a shit about what people think of her.
Which... is pretty much accurate, especially considering the fact that, for all of her life, Kainé was thought of as a freak and a curse and, later, an inhuman monster. Growing up in a hyper-paranoid xenophobic society isn't easy, especially if you're intersex and everyone thinks you're a bad omen. Kainé had a hard life, and it shows. Her treatment and banishment from her hometown gave her a heavy distrust for other people. The brutal death of her grandmother, the only person who loved her, gave her a single-minded bloodlust towards shades, the creatures that killed her.
They nearly killed Kainé, too, and she was only able to survive by making a deal with Tyrann, another shade who shared his powers with her in exchange for sharing her body and making it a tool for murder. Sadistic and cutthroat, Tyrann loves making his host miserable and often taunts her in her head, calling her 'sunshine' as a pet name and continually reminding her that if she ever gets soft and doesn't satisfy his bloodthirst, he'd take over her body for good. Not a problem at first, since she bitterly hates shades as much as she hates herself, and when she gets revenge on the one that murders her grandmother, she's perfectly happy to give up and die to end her meaningless life. But it does become more of a problem when she finally meets people who accept her for what she is and convince her to live, when she starts to fear losing control of her body and attacking her friends.
Kainé is clearly not the most stable person even at the best of times. She's dealt on-and-off with suicidal thoughts since she was a child, and though she recovers somewhat from those tendencies since meeting Nier, she still has a very fractured sense of self. Literally, too--after spending so much time with a genuinely bloodlusting presence like Tyrann in her head, she's learned to embrace his love of violence as a coping mechanism. She can be extremely trigger-happy if provoked, though she channels her rage into killing shades and rarely attacks people... to a point. Because Kainé is half-shade herself, she can actually understand their language and eventually learns the secret of their true nature. Despite that, she doesn't hesitate in murdering them. Ever since she was saved from death by Nier, she's decided to dedicate herself fully to support him as 'his sword', which means cutting down anything that stands in his way without a second thought. Even if it turns out that their quest was misguided after all.
As cold and antisocial as she might appear, she's still human, even if only half-so. She resents her hometown, but continues to camp nearby to slaughter shades and protect it. She has a lot of sympathy for children, rescuing Fyra from wolves and, later, the young King of Facade when he goes missing. She's been through a lot of hardship due to being abnormal, first for her biology and then for her possession. As such, she sees a kindred spirit in Emil and tries her best to teach him not to hate himself for his curse, like she hates herself for hers. Though she eventually finds herself with friends for the first time, years of living alone leaves her with terrible social skills, since violence and threats are the best ways she knows to express herself. Telling them that she'd chop off their balls if they had any or that they look like shit after waking up from a 5-year absence is just her way of saying she cares. Because, despite everything, she really does.

Roleplay Sample: (third-person sample for another game!)
She walked through the door and into another world.
Her first thought was that whatever had knocked her off her feet and gave her this headache was going to pay. Her second was... where are her swords? She staggered up with a groan, shaking her head to try to clear the dizzy feeling--it's not my fault this time, sunshine, so stop looking at me like that--while she rolled her eyes. She couldn't even look Tyrann in the face in the first place, so what the hell was he bitching about anyway?
A man nearby was picking up a pair of very familiar weapons. She was on her feet in a flash and whipped the swords out of his grip. "Don't touch those. They're mine."
Maybe it was her outfit. Maybe he could sense something off about her already, even if her shade limbs were hidden and she hadn't used any magic. Or maybe it was both, and a little extra. Being confronted by a furious-looking woman in a negligee wielding two heavy saw-like blades was probably not in the greeter's job description. He looked terrified.
Like most people aren't scared shitless by you already?
She ignored the laughter in her head and leveled a sword at the man on the ground. Who he was didn't matter. What did were her friends and where they could be in this place, wherever the fuck it was. "Hey, asshole. You're going to give me answers. Now."
